An "Offering" is a gift to the Lord above and beyond your tithe. Many at FBC continue to give this to the unified budget while others guide their gifts toward a missions emphasis, the building fund, or a special event.
What Does the Bible say about Giving?
Giving is an act of worship. True worship begins when you realize that everything you have (your time, talents, possessions, etc.) belongs to God.
“...and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth." Gen 28:22 (NIV)
Before you give, ask yourself these questions:
1) What should my attitude be?
God wants you to be cheerful (full of good spirits; ungrudging)
"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2) What is my responsibility?
"Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you -- guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us." 2 Timothy 1:14
(NIV emphasis added)
God’s provision to you is a treasure (something of great wealth or value) to be used for His purposes.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21
